Some 20-33% of world commerce by sea passes by means of the South China Sea. Additionally it is dwelling to wealthy fishing grounds.
Situated in Southeast Asia, the South China Sea is claimed virtually in its entirety by China, by means of what it calls the nine-dash line. China has over time militarized many low-lying islands and coral reefs within the space. However 5 years in the past immediately, a world courtroom successfully dominated Chinese language claims to be unlawful. Notably with reference to Scarborough shoal, a low-lying rocky outcrop that, in response to the courtroom, falls inside the Philippines’ territory.

The binding ruling by the Hague-based Everlasting Courtroom of Arbitration was in response to the Philippines taking China to courtroom. However China refused to acknowledge the decision. In consequence, Filipino fishermen to today are prevented from accessing the coveted fishing areas there.

I don't trust ASEAN countries. Philippines is the only ally of the USA. Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam will be part of Chinas alliance I'm sure of that. They hate America. dMalaysia and Philippines have issues in Sabah.

I live in Texas. Not many people know this, but we have been part of Portugal, Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, The Confederate States of America, and finally the U.S. Historical claim could even be offered to native people, but at some point you simply have to recognize that ownership history has little to nothing to do with land. It is control…and that’s it.

I won’t get surprised if China claims that the Earth is part of their country since it sits on top of it and it’s part of their history.

Dw interviewing the wrong people. This filipino guy didnt know ( or knows but plays dumb) that a standoff during the aquino adm. made us lose those islands, not during duterte adm. Issue of WPS already cleared during the president "talk to the nation", where aquino is to be blamed. Nakakahiya ka pre.

The Philippine Coast Guard and Navy need to mass in force in places where its fishermen are being blocked to escort the Chinese ships out of the Philippines EEZ because China only understands the use of force. So, the Philippines Navy and Coast Guard need to bring more ships and bigger ships along with fully armed aircraft and attack helicopters to the scene. Once there is a sufficient show of military force they will back down. Also, it wouldn't hurt to have US Navy ships and other Allied country ships nearby to stand behind the Philippines forces. If the Chinese CCP ships try to use weapons to hold their ground, then the full firepower of all Philippines ships and aircraft should respond to destroy and sink any hostile CCP ships. The USA and Allied ships will back this action.

I support Filipinos to fight for whatever belonged to them. The land and the sea belong to the people of the Philippines, not to the Philippines Gov, definitely not to the Chinese. We should unite our people ourselves and fight off the Chinese army until the last man standing! No one will help us if we don't even fight for ourselves.

If china is allowed to keep sea areas, they will just grab everything, land and sea, in the region. Kick butt sadly might be an option.

Very Misleading and deceptive. First EEZ is NOT territorial waters of any Nation. Second, China DID NOT attend the Tribunal to defend itself. Third, many nations claim those waters as part of their EEZ (Vietnam and Malaysia). Forth, the Tribunal DID NOT rule on the sovereignty of the territories. It merely ruled (by default as China did not attend to defend against the claim) that China's claim Had No lawful effect.
