Boeing and Airbus dominate world aviation, however China’s Comac needs to problem the duopoly with new planes. WSJ’s Jon Sindreu explains how provide chains, expertise and geopolitics might assist the Western plane makers to guard key markets. Picture Composite: George Downs

Competition is good for consumers.
Boeing and Airbus will dominate until 2050-2060.
China will be able to compete with them in flights and sales of their planes. but Boeing and Airbus are like Samsung they not only sell their products but are also suppliers of their competition.
So dominance in 2 Areas, and competence in 1, still a duopoly.
Made in China explains many things like poor quality control. Just look at how many accidents Chinese people go through because of poorly built elevators, escalators and buildings. Some of their apartment buildings don’t even have actual windows but rather draw of windows. If Koreans and Japanese aren’t buying Chinese made jets, then that just explains in itself quite a lot.
china is already launching rockets to the moon and space stations. In a few years time they will overcome the obstacle and beat boeing and airbus squarely. I just can't get it why the west is soooooooooooo scared of china. the world should be scared with you the west for invading and pilfering our land before.
Lol hope quality/reliability is much better then the products that are manufactured in that country
OMG are there anyone still believe in Boeing? I don't want to give my life to a plane which lies to you.
like everything else China will eventually catch up for its aviation industry.
China will reduce large orders from Beoing ! As for airbus, if EU plays the cards right, Air Bus will get orders from ChinanLol
O my goodness so this is legit after all,, thanks to maskoffweb for marking me to trust them now i just received 12,000 thousand dollars via PayPal hack
Western countries: “competition is good”, China competes: “competition is bad”
it's all about Market Share, if China buys locally produced aircraft, this denies boeing and airbus access to Chinese aviation market, hence a lower market share which will lead to lower sales in China from boeing and airbus.
The problem with western mentality is they dont want to see any country to develop and Flourish.
I will definitely be flying on one once it's available.
And for the first time being happy to fly on a narrow body airliner!
We'll see if those planes can stay in the air….if its any indication based on other goods from China, I'd rather walk…..
Both Boeing and Airbus need their acts together before they think about challenging China.
When China attempts to do it big, it will succeed maybe will take another 1-2 decade to compete in the market against Boeing n airbus.
This is great news for consumers. China will probably sell these planes at a loss to gain market share, which will trickle down to passenger cost savings.
Why did they make the Chinese woman the spokesperson for this anti-china activity? 2:31
Chinese Comac will be win day by day.. This is china.. USA and europe is over.
As a major airline Captain and a HarborFreight customer I’m not real excited about a Chinese airplane !
jon sindrue why you think c919 is challenging airbus and boeing. its building it for its own market.
It's simple the Chinese will stop by in Boeing and Airbus, it's not that difficult to see, they want the money following in their country why would they spend money to help other countries??? It's not rocket science!
Comac has both European and American suppliers for almost all major components of the plane, including the engine itself. So, it's really a global product that benefits everyone from suppliers to end consumers.
In the 21st century, many of the most technologically sophisticated products simply cannot be produced in a single country because it's impossible that any single country can possess all the technological know-how and the entire component supply chain. For example, this applies to the aerospace industry and also the semi-conductor industry. Economic Nationalism is a dead-end proposition for any country that wants to practice it.
China has fall into US UK trap again. These 2 devil's already planed long ago to let china invest heavily into this aircraft business then stop supplying china to kill the whole industry. That's how cruel white man are, bc of their protestant christian religion which taught them these wickedness.
Even comac can make all their parts, the 2 devil probably gang up with European countries not to allow their aircraft to fly into their airport under the pretext of safety rules. And I still don't understand why China still have to be so kind to these white man, allowing their business like McDonald KFC Starbucks etc etc to still operate in China sucking out hundred of billions every months or years back to their country which those fast food will kill younger generation slowly.
Basically the US will cheat because it can't compete.
Trains, computers, cell phones, and cars are NOT the same as planes. They are not at risk of falling out of the sky filled with fragile people. Russian grown commercial aircraft have NEVER had anything approaching a "good" reputation and China's commercial aviation industry is still a BIG unknown. Neither are going to have an easy time selling their products outside their home markets … reliability, after sales support, parts and the biggie – getting the planes certified in foreign airspace are all hurdles they have to prove they can overcome. They may also have built the wrong planes; they are trying to go head to head with Boeing and Airbus which is nice if you can pull it off, but a more practical strategy would have been to go where the biggies are not. That's what Bombardier did with the C Series which has turned out (politics aside) to be a roaring success and has that segment of the market pretty much to itself. What they should be looking at is what is the evolution of air travel going to look like 10 years down the road and be building for that BEFORE the biggies get there. All they have really produces is a ME TOO! plane that offers no practical advantage over far more trusted products. I'll believe their viability a year or so after I see them landing in places like Rome, London, Paris, New York, LA and Toronto.
The days of imperialism McDonald fatty stealing bombing spying killing natives enslave black people days are over!!!!!!!
I am gonna say it again, America is a joke.
Sorry Stupid! The key market is China itself.
Boeing and Airbus can not compete with Comac, So CIA come out.
The addicted node respectively end because fruit problematically doubt pace a belligerent bulldozer. groovy, quaint ocelot
US and EU would cheat to stop C919 from becoming popular. Here are their possible tricks: 1) do not accept C919 from entering into their air space at all. 2) smear the C919 as a an unsafe aircraft. 3) stop selling aircraft engines to C919. 4) CIA may hijack and make the aircraft crash.
"china caught up with the west like trains, cars & digital tec" who you kidding china is not caught up they led those sectors 37,900 km of High-speed rail for christ's sake
