A day after India’s first official talks with the Taliban following the latter’s return to Afghanistan, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Nationwide Convention (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah on Wednesday requested the Centre to make clear its stand on Taliban, and whether or not the federal government considers it a terror organisation.
“Both Taliban is a terror organisation or it isn’t. Please make clear to us the way you (GoI) see the Taliban,” the Nationwide Convention vice chairman advised reporters after an Indian consultant in Doha met a Taliban chief on Tuesday.
This was the primary formally acknowledged assembly when Indian Ambassador to Qatar Deepak Mittal met senior Taliban chief Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai and conveyed India’s considerations that Afghanistan’s soil shouldn’t be used for anti-Indian actions and terrorism.
“Is the Taliban a terrorist organisation and if it isn’t, will you progress to the United Nations to delist it as a terror organisation. Proper now, you (India) are presiding over the UN Safety Council,” Abdullah, who has been a Minister of State for Exterior Affairs throughout Vajpayee’s tenure, stated.
