The loss of life toll from an assault on civilians and the navy in northern Burkina Faso has risen to 80 individuals, the federal government stated in a press release on Thursday.
The assault occurred on Wednesday when Islamist militants raided a civilian convoy that was being escorted by navy police close to the city of Arbinda, the newest in a spate of assaults throughout West Africa’s Sahel area this month.
Fifty-nine civilians, six pro-government militiamen and 15 navy police have been killed, the federal government and the navy stated on Thursday. The preliminary loss of life toll was put at 47 on Wednesday.
Safety forces stated 80 militants have been additionally killed.
