Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun mentioned on Saturday that floodgates have partially opened on the Barrowtown Pump Station and began releasing water from the Sumas River to the Fraser River.
The mayor mentioned that was “excellent news” as circulation breaching the Sumas River dike has lessened.
Officers hope that water ranges will proceed to lower so the flood gates can stay open, and doubtlessly, open totally.
“This can be a good begin, and each little bit helps.” The mayor mentioned in a briefing.
The town stays below a state of native emergency, with large flooding within the Sumas Prairie agricultural space.
