Canada won’t ship any official representatives to the Beijing Winter Olympics in February as a part of a rising diplomatic boycott by allies over China’s document of human rights abuses.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement on Wednesday after going through a number of days of questions over whether or not Canada would stand with allies which have already introduced related plans.
“We’re saying right this moment that we’ll not be sending any diplomatic illustration to the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic video games this winter,” stated Trudeau, including he doesn’t imagine the transfer from Canada or by allies will “come as a shock” to China.
Calls have been rising over current days as Canada’s closest allies have introduced their plans to not ship official representatives to the Beijing Olympics in February as a part of a diplomatic boycott over China’s human rights abuses, notably towards the Uyghur ethnic minority.
The USA, the U.Okay., and Australia all introduced their selections this week.
