Preparations are being made to get well an F-35C warplane that crashed into the South China Sea after a touchdown accident, the US Navy has stated.
Seven personnel have been injured – together with the pilot who ejected – within the incident on the deck of the plane provider USS Carl Vinson on Monday.
“I can affirm the plane impacted the flight deck throughout touchdown and subsequently fell to the water,” stated Lieutenant Nicholas Lingo, spokesperson for the US seventh Fleet.
“The US Navy is making restoration operations preparations for the F-35C plane.”
Requested about stories suggesting there have been fears the plane may fall into the fingers of China, he replied, referring to the Folks’s Republic of China: “We can not speculate on what the PRC’s intentions are on this matter.”
It’s the second crash involving a Lockheed Martin-made F-35 and a provider in simply over two months.
An F-35 from HMS Queen Elizabeth crashed into the Mediterranean in November, although the pilot safely ejected.
That plane was later recovered by British groups.
Earlier this month, a South Korean F-35A fighter made an emergency touchdown throughout coaching.
And in April 2019, a Japanese F-35 stealth fighter crashed within the Pacific near northern Japan, killing the pilot.
